Press Release
BIAL is extending the capabilities of its current warehouse with automated storage and distribution system for the anticipated increase in operations volume in the coming years. BIAL is teaming up with Körber, its trusted logistics partner since 2004, to implement further automation and material handling equipment to boost efficiency, productivity and turnaround.
Albertina Miranda (Head of Logistic and Distribution) from BIAL adds: “Körber has proven to be a reliable partner for over 17 years. From initial consultation to solution development and ongoing support, we trust their supply chain and especially automation expertise. With Körber, we can realize our growth potential and know that we will stay ahead of challenges. That means we have a reliable supply chain which will provide security to existing customers and also generate new business.”
The enhanced system includes an automated warehouse and handling system for palletized raw material, packaging and finished medicine products. This also comprises a fire extinguishing system, a self-supported racking system for single-deep storage as well as a stacker crane with aisle switch. BIAL will also upgrade to a newer version of Körber’s K.Motion Warehouse Management System (WMS) which will be web-based, providing the pharma company with more flexibility. A conveyor system will link the existing system with the expansion, namely the warehouse, picking, shipping and receiving areas. With the implementation of the new system, BIAL will benefit from increased storage capacity as well as throughput. The company will be getting more out of the existing space which will be free to be used for other internal activities. As a result, BIAL will ultimately be able to deliver products to its customers faster and more efficiently.
“At Körber, we are re-imagining supply chains worldwide. Although we work globally, our local offices and product development sites allow us to act ‘glocal’, delivering personalized, on-site customer service. With pharma having become more important than ever during the pandemic, we are keen on providing our customers with best-in-class solutions to solve their complexities. This way, they can ensure customers get what they need, when they need it while being able to stay ahead of the competition”, says Andreas Ebert, CEO Automation, Körber Business Area Supply Chain.
