Digitizing an outdated warehouse

with WMS and Voice

Challenges

Nassau Provisions peak season includes Passover, processing up to 15,000 cases of product per day. The addition of more products with an intricate range increases the retailers supply chain complexity. Nassau quickly realized it needed to:

  • Replace the manual, outdated warehouse system with an automated Warehouse Management System (WMS)
  • Centralize control with a digital operation
  • Replace tacit employee knowledge with new technology and automation

Solutions implemented

Nassau selected Körber as a partner on account of an understanding of the current problem, flexibility and technological competence. The solutions chosen were:

The Story

New-York based Nassau Provisions was established in 1982, specializing in the distribution of groceries to supermarkets, restaurants, convenience-stores and delicatessens. With a vast number of products that rely upon a variety of temperature zones, Nassau needed an updated warehouse system. Nassau chose Körber’s K.Motion Warehouse Edge solution and quickly saw improvements in accuracy, the picking process and distribution. The WMS was a critical tool during peak season, when the new seasonal products add to the complexity of warehouse operations. 

A year later, Nassau attended Körber’s annual conference – Elevate 2020 – to explore additional technology solutions. A customer presentation on Körber’s voice solution resonated with Nassau, and decided to invest in Voice. Körber’s K.Motion Screen-to-Voice meant employees could be hands-free and it quickly became a vital part of their operation. Results were noticed almost immediately, with the reduction of training time and staffing requirements. Not only did Nassau need 55 percent less warehouse associates picking, they increased picking productivity by 133 percent. With two successful Körber solution deployments completed, Nassau intends to partner with Körber again. 

This kind of fulfilment is on the rise as eCommerce continues to take up a larger percentage of the retail spend. We knew this kind of approach would work very well for Chemist Warehouse and we’re absolutely thrilled with the results.
