Körber continues its collaboration with the retail chain JYSK at its Distribution Center Bozhurishte (DCB) in Bulgaria. Recently, the DCB has been supplying not only JYSK's own stores but also online customers in Southeastern Europe. With Körber, JYSK has now comprehensively expanded the capabilities of its distribution center and prepared it for the complexities of online retail.
Körber consulted on and implemented the warehouse management system based on SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) and SAP EWM MFS. This is seamlessly integrated with Körber’s own automation equipment in form of two high bay warehouses (HBWs) which comprises room for about 120,000 pallets and an extendable rail-guided vehicle (RGV) used for transporting pallets across all the operational areas. With the integration of processes for online retail, the DCB is now fully equipped for multichannel delivery to stores and end customers. That includes interlinked replenishment strategies as well as intelligent internal goods transport processes; all vital due to JYSK’s large product variety. This ranges from Christmas tree ornaments to dining tables, towels, wardrobes, spare parts for door hinges and garden chairs.
With this, JYSK is also able to offer its customers services with much lower carbon footprints. In the past, online orders for Southeastern Europe were largely processed in Radomsko, Poland, and incurred high transport costs. Due to its location, the DCB’s extended functions significantly reduce delivery times thanks to the inherent adaptability of SAP EWM to the operational environment for e-commerce fulfillment. All equipment is benefiting from improved capacity utilization by replenishment and picking processes implemented and seamlessly integrated by Körber based on SAP EWM.
“E-commerce has become more important, and this development has been further strengthened by the worldwide corona pandemic. Therefore, we have to deliver quickly to all of our customers to stay competitive.
The SAP system and automation components allow us to meet the expectations of our customers more efficiently and effectively despite the increasing volume. Our ongoing partnership with Körber and its versatile solution portfolio has and will continue to enable the flexibility to expand our capabilities to meet future demands,” says Allan K. Kjærgaard, EVP Logistics at JYSK.
"The growing challenges of e-commerce necessitate powerful and flexible solutions to keep up with evolving customer requirements," explains Dirk Hejnal, Chief Executive Officer, Körber Business Area Supply Chain. "With Körber, challenges like these become opportunities, thanks to a comprehensive range of services, a global team of experts and the necessary knowledge and experience in the integration of efficient, end-to-end software and automation solutions."
On Black Friday 2020, there were over 5,500 picks in one day at DBC, which was a new record for JYSK. Based on this success, Körber will roll out IT features designed for multichannel business at a new distribution center in Ecser, Hungary, which is scheduled to go live in 2022.
