Manufacturing Logistics – Thought from the End

As a one-stop shop for palletizing cells, conveyor technology and comprehensive automation, the Körber Competence Center Manufacturing Logistics is the ideal partner for companies that want to make their production lines more efficient, more flexible and more energy-efficient.

Within the Körber ecosystem concept, the state-of-the-art end-of-line systems form the perfect complement to complete end-to-end solutions for the manufacturing industry.

Production lines must become more flexible in order to process different batch sizes, packaging and products economically and reliably. Particularly in the tissue, bakery, and consumer goods industries, the need to handle delicate products in thinner and more sensitive packaging is increasing - also for cost and sustainability reasons.

A Matter of Technology – and Focus

With the help of modern automation and robotics solutions, these packages can be transported and palletized gently and efficiently, and quickly adapted to changing conditions. This requires not only pronounced technology and integration competence, but also deep and comprehensive industry knowledge in order to understand potential pain points and optimization potentials of production processes and, even better, to foresee them in the planning phase. This is where the consulting expertise of our sales and technical experts is crucial for our customers.

Within the Körber ecosystem with its broad technology portfolio, the Manufacturing Logistics competence center specializes in palletizing solutions and conveyor technology for tissue products, baked goods and consumer goods. Within the framework of integrated end-to-end solutions, the competence center seamlessly integrates mechanics, hardware and software into user-oriented in-house developments and comprehensive technical solutions. All solutions focus on individual functions and automation, from which the necessary mechanics and hardware are derived. These can be flexibly adapted to different environments and are used in the key processes of production logistics.

Automating Key Processes

Palletizing is one of these key processes for an efficient production conclusion. Increasing throughput with various, frequently changing products, along with rising demands on package and packaging quality and data tracking, can push manual procedures and conventional automation solutions to their limits. On the other hand, powerful and variable palletizing offers the necessary flexibility, efficiency, and economy, enabling companies to gain decisive competitive advantages even under high cost and personnel pressure. Our state-of-the-art palletizing cells not only ensure optimal loading of trucks and high-bay warehouses but also produce display pallets of top quality that can be used directly at the point of sale.

Growing Systems

The state-of-the-art PA15 palletizing system, for example, sets the pace for operational pallet logistics. This in-house development from Körber combines modularity, performance and gentle handling in a powerful yet compact system. The combination of a fully automatic layer palletizer, gentle conveyor technology and software-controlled gripping and placing technology with delta robots offers production throughputs tailored to requirements, which can subsequently be increased to up to 10 layers/min with layer sizes of up to 1,500 × 1,500 mm and layer weights of up to 150 kg through various configuration options.

Picking and placing of products is done in any arrangement with one, two or three delta robots in the ZF72 infeed station. This provides great flexibility in forming layers and pallet patterns for different pallet sizes. The grouped units are conveyed to the PA15 layer palletizer where they are precisely aligned and, if necessary, compressed onto the pallet using four-sided compression. Gripping, accelerating, depositing, and layer forming - the entire process is performed without pushing, virtually eliminating process-related waste. This makes the system suitable for highly sensitive products such as tissue rolls, baked goods or sustainable packaging with low material thickness.

With its adaptable performance and modular design principle, the PA15 embodies the high degree of variability and scalability typical of all end-of-line and end-to-end solutions in the Körber ecosystem, and is also an answer to the most pressing pain points of the manufacturing industry.
